The key objectives of the establishment of Girri Girri Sports Academy for Indigenous Students is to improve attendance rates, improve retention rates and provide opportunities to improve literacy/numeracy skills of indigenous students. Girri Girri Sports Academy for Indigenous Students offers a differentiated curriculum including vocational qualifications, outdoor recreation skills, leadership skills, work experience and sporting clinics for academy members. Through being involved in the academy students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of courses including First Aid, Coaching Course Level One Qualification, Aboriginal Cultural Education and Referee tickets in sports including soccer, hockey, netball, basketball and touch football.
