Denison College of Secondary Education

What is Denison College?
Denison College arose from a community collaboration involving more than 200 people working to reevaluate the future of public education in Bathurst after a fire destroyed Kelso High School in 2005. The consultation resulted in consensus around a model that called for the establishment of a college, with two year 7 -12 campuses at Kelso and Bathurst High providing quality education and facilities. A feature of this college model was that each campus would maintain its own identity, but the establishment of shared curriculum and resources would increase opportunities for all students.
The establishment of the college will see the construction of a new 7 to 12 campus on the original Kelso High site incorporating the latest educational facilities and a partnership established with Bathurst High through the shared curriculum for years 11 and 12.
Each of the schools will be known individually as Kelso High Campus and Bathurst High Campus and they will continue to honour their own tradition and history, but operate under the common banner of “Denison College of Secondary Education”. This collaboration will result in increased subject selection options for students of the Bathurst community as well as a broadening of the co-curricular opportunities offered by the schools. It will be further enhanced by the formation of partnerships with Charles Sturt University, Western Institute of TAFE and local industry.
